Copyrights, Piracy and Honesty in the Digital Age

It starts at home. We believe that the behavior we model with regard to copyrighted material and intellectual property is the most important factor in influencing student behavior long term. However, it is human nature to want to take an advantage that can be easily taken. Therefore, we believe that it is unreasonable to expect changes in behavior without consequences (enforcement). Schools could do the following:

1. Include discussions of ethics as part of core curriculum
2. Enable network administrators to survey what students and perhaps faculty are doing with school-owned equipment and via school-provided internet access.
3. Model appropriate behaviour as faculty, especially with educational materials used in our classes.

Learning about the whiteboard technology is great. The potential to make the classroom more exciting and interactive with the students would be worth the investment. It would be great to see our school make the investment.
Tuesday....its hot all around, but we are psyched to be learning new stuff, such as:

Smartboard software...we wish we all had them in our class, but someday.

I am amazed at what most of us don't take advantage of....yet none of it saves time, it only seems to get us to fill more time. That is alright....it is fun.

End of Day 1

Looking back it was a long day. We balanced lecture and hands on, though there was a bit too much lecture for one of these ThreeJays. We did cover blogging, and that seems to be working; we covered Webquests at the end of the day and I found some interesting things that will be postted here tomorrow I understand.

Anyway, Summercore seems like a success. We should get more acclimated as the week goes on, but I am tired tonight. See you all in the morning.

Pre-lunch Update Day 1

We have covered the first 20 questions on of the "hot 33 questions". The Three Jays have a few questions about these:

#13 ASCII: Is there some method to this or should we just refer to the chart when we need it (and when will that ever be)?
#20 WIKI: What is this? What can it do for us?

#22 just to review, the three steps in saving: 1) use a good description for the file name, 2)know what type of device you are saving it to, and 3) and know what folder you are saving to.

I'm looking at the lunch spread right now and its making me very hungry. I think I'll have a turkey sandwich.

First Day

This is the first day of Summercore Blogging forthe Three jays.
